The history of Landal GreenParks

Landal GreenParks' history goes back to 1954, with the purchase of holiday park Rabbit Hill by Nillmij (later part of Aegon). The park turned out to be too large for Nillmij's own staff and it was decided to also let the bungalows to third parties. That worked well and more parks in the Netherlands were purchased and built.

In 1965, construction was started on a park in Germany. In 1996 Aegon decided that the operation of bungalows was not part of its core activities, and on 18 July 1996, Aegon Recreatie Holding B.V. was sold to a group of investors led by the Indofin Group and Charterhouse Development Capital PLC.

After this acquisition, the activities were continued under the name of Landal GreenParks. On 1 September 2002, Landal GreenParks acquired the company Beheer & Projecten B.V. in Groningen (NL), including the management contracts of 34 bungalow parks from Gran Dorado. This concerned 31 Dutch and 3 Belgian bungalow parks with more than 4,500 holiday homes. The bungalow parks were owned privately and Beheer & Projecten provided the commercial operation for the owners.

On 5 May 2004, Cendant Corporation took over the shares of Charterhouse and Indofin. Since then, Landal GreenParks has added parks each year in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria. Under the names Landal Ski Life, it has also broadened its activities into winter sports holidays.

Most recently, Landal Makelaardij has been added to focus on the sales of newly constructed or existing recreational properties. Cendant Corporation was split into four different companies as of 1 August 2006. One of these companies was Wyndham Worldwide, in which Cendant had concentrated all its businesses in the area of hotel, time-share and holiday accommodations.

Wyndham Worldwide is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and, in turn, was split into three divisions. Landal GreenParks is the sole provider of bungalow parks which is included in the Wyndham Destination Network.

In 2018 Platinum Equity has taken over the entire European division of Wyndham Worldwide. The European division consists of the brands Landal GreenParks, Novasol, Hoseasons, cottages.com and James Villa Holidays. Platinum is an American investment fund with interests in multiple companies.

In 2023, Platinum Equity has sold the shares of Landal GreenParks to Roompot with the help of investment fund KKR.
