Hohe Tauern National Park
At 1,856 km2, the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest of its kind in Austria and is one of the most impressive nature reserves in Europe. Located in the centre of the Austrian Alps, it connects Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. Its trademark is the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in the country at over 3,700 metres. Outdoor fans can discover the wide variety of animal and plant species during a hike or mountain bike tour and, with a bit of luck, come face to face with golden eagles, bearded vultures or marmots.
