Sustainability certification gains greater importance within the leisure industry

Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role within the leisure industry. From September onwards, European regulations regarding sustainability claims will become stricter. Companies will only be allowed to communicate sustainability claims if these have been independently verified through a recognised certification, such as Green Key. This aims to prevent so-called “greenwashing” and increases the value of certifications for guests.

Until 1 October, Green Key will continue to work with the existing gold, silver and bronze classifications. After that date, the organisation will transition to a renewed international certification structure.
