Hear the silence in the forest, reed and water landscapes of the Weerribben-Wieden area. You might spot a bittern, warbler or other bird. In Europe's lowest low moorland swamp, you will encounter all kinds of flora and fauna. Keep your eyes open for otters, roe deer, butterflies and protected plants such as the grass of Parnassia.

In the vicinity of the park, enjoy an evening out at one of the cosy pubs, bistros and restaurants, such as Elly's Beach & Bistro or Aan 't Wiede Beach Pavilion. Or settle down on the lovely waterside terraces in Giethoorn and completely unwind.

Kids

There is plenty of adventure for children at Belterwiede Water Park. On warm days they run straight to the swimming lake to splash around, play and cool off. You can teach your child to fish and cast a rod at the fishing pond, where you can wait in suspense for a big catch. For the real competition there is a table tennis table, where children can challenge each other to a fanatical game and show off their fastest smash.

Sport and games

At Waterpark Belterwiede, there's plenty of excitement for sports and game enthusiasts. Challenge each other to a game of table tennis and see who has the fastest reflexes. Fishermen can cast their rods and patiently wait for the perfect catch. Weerribben-Wieden National Park

The Weerribben-Wieden is a nature reserve formed by human hands, created in the 16th century by peat excavation for peat production. This created ‘weren’ (holes), ‘ribben’ (strips of land) and ‘wieden’ (lakes).

Giethoorn

Giethoorn is criss-crossed by many waterways. Make your day trip complete with a boat trip through the village and the nearby Weerribben Wieden National Park. You can rent boats anywhere in the village.

The sculpture park of the Anningahof Estate is located on the outskirts of Zwolle, in a beautiful, natural environment. Here, everything revolves around contemporary Dutch sculpture from 1960 onwards.

From your patio, you can see the boat you brought or rented locally. Soon, it's time for a short boat ride. Don't forget your fishing gear and some drinks for along the way. What a wonderful lifestyle! If you love water, you'll definitely have a great time here. Cycling is also quite the adventure. The charming village of Giethoorn is nearby, as is Meppel. And by car, you can reach the lively center of Zwolle in just thirty minutes. With so much to do, it's no surprise guests love to return.

It's hard to believe how peaceful it can be in busy Holland, but it truly exists. National Park Weerribben-Wieden is one of our most beautiful natural spots. Here, nearly silent boats drift past the reeds and between meadows. If you're observant, you may spot an otter swimming or a deer grazing in the field. Visitors and locals greet one another as they pass by. There's a cooler and packed lunch on board, and they occasionally stop for a picnic or a drink. This area is often referred to as the green maze. What a wonderful idea, getting lost in it.
